PTA–Complaint Cell

In the year 2009 Pakistan Telecommunication Authority –PTA launched a complaint cell. If they didn’t atleast they had planned to do something like that at the same time frame, I remember reading about it somewhere. The function of that cell was ”protection” of consumers. I being critical of everything govt. did, believed it to be another dysfunctional project. Later in the start of year 2011. PTA extended its complaint cell to “Online Complaint cell”. Again I deemed it to be an eyewash. Anyways I lodged my first complain in mid 2010. This was the time when mobile phone spamming was nurturing in the networks. It had not grown to the extent it is now, but still, with the advent of smart share like services, muggers had started their job on cell phone users. To add insult to injury, Mobile phone companies also had started sending advertisement to customers forcefully. pta

One fine day while I was in my class I receive this call form a number that looks to a golden number. Intrigued I answered the call after getting out of the class. To my annoyance it was an advertisement. That too by my mobile phone service provider. This was the last piece of aggravation required to ignite my already fueled anger against spamming on cell phones. With an intention of taking stern action against these guys, I  contacted my mobile phone service provider because I trusted them. Also as a backup I also lodged a complaint to PTA, which I was hopeless of getting any response from. Astonishingly the next day I received an official mail from PTA stating that my problem had been taken care of. In couple of days my mobile phone company responded to my complain as well. Interestingly all kinds of spamming stopped.

Later this year, rather a few days back, a guy trying to play smart ass with me called and said thPB130597at he was representative of Telenor and I had won something and I should call back with some information to claim that prize. Obviously enough, I knew it was spam. Lodged a complain against the number, and PTA did not disappoint me. I received dual confirmation – via web and phone. That the number against which I had complained, had been blocked.

There are very few departments in the state of Pakistan that are working. PTA’s complaint cell is one of those. For those who are facing similar problems, you can launch an online complaint to PTA at the following URL:

Keep on whining. Smile
